Army Helicopter Crashes Near Tawang, One Pilot Killed

The helicopter was flying in the forward region close to Tawang, one of India's final points on the China border.

During a regular exercise, an Army helicopter crashed on Wednesday, killing one of its two pilots. The helicopter was flying in the forward region close to Tawang, one of India's final points on the China border.

According to a statement by an Army public relations officer, "An Army Aviation Cheetah helicopter crashed around 10 a.m., while on a regular mission in the advanced region near Tawang. Both pilots were sent to the closest military hospital but the first pilot passed away from his injuries while the second pilot was receiving treatment. 

The pilot who passed away was Lieutenant Colonel Saurabh Yadav. The Army has not disclosed the cause of the plane crash. Details are being confirmed, according to its statement.

In recent years, there have been a number of helicopter crashes in Arunachal Pradesh, with severe weather being the primary cause of most of them. Six helicopter crashes in the Northeast state have resulted in the deaths of nearly 40 individuals since 2010. Former chief minister Dorjee Khandu is one of them.
