Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, commander of the Northern Army, said on Tuesday that the Indian Army is ready to carry out any order issued by the Government of India, including retaking Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“In terms of the Indian Army, it will carry out any order issued by the Government of India. We will be prepared whenever such orders are given,” Dwivedi said.

“The military is always ready to ensure that the ceasefire understanding is never broken as it is in the interest of both nations, but if broken at any time, we will give them a befitting reply,” Dwivedi was quoted as saying by the media report.

“Almost half of the population is under the age of 25. If we take them in as Agnives, team them up and send them back, we will absorb some, paramilitary and police forces will absorb others, and the remaining can be self-employed,” he said.

Dwivedi's remarks came just weeks after Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hinted that parts of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) would be returned. On 27 October, Singh said that Pakistan had betrayed India and was “committing atrocities” against the people of Kashmir.

“We feel Kashmiris' anguish in PoK. We have begun to develop Kashmir and will not stop until we reach Gilgit and Baltistan,” said the minister.

Singh also claimed that Pakistan is injecting Lashkar terrorists into India in the name of Kashmiriyat, adding that terrorism has no religion and that these militants' only goal is to attack India.
