Former Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria Appointed As Head Of UP Defence Corridor

UPDIC is a flagship project that intends to establish manufacturing defence industries in the state. India aims to emerge as a major aerospace and defence market with over USD 250 billion by 2025.

Former Air Chief Marshal, RKS Bhadauria has been appointed to lead the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) on Thursday.

According to the state government, the UP defence industrial corridor will expand under his leadership. 

The project runs under the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) which is the main organisation. 

The corridor has six locations including Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur and Lucknow that is connected by the corridor. 

The 20,000 crore Defence Industrial Corridor project was announced by prime minister Narendra Modi to be built in the Bundelkhand region, which is one of the most backward areas in the state in February 2018.

According to the official, the state government has provided funding to these kinds of organisations that are willing to hire young people and train them for a year. Each industrial unit will be able to train 50 of these young people and will receive Rs 10,000 per month per person from the government for doing so.

More jobs are to be created in the drought-prone Bundelkhand region as part of the Defence Corridor project. Industrialists who are willing to spend up to Rs 10 crore in the state would receive capital subsidies.
