This operational-level exercise is held twice a year and involves not only the Indian Navy but also the Indian Army, Air Force and Coast Guard. The maritime exercise also allows for operational-level interaction with the Indian Army, Air Force and Coast Guard, enhancing interoperability and joint operations in a complex environment.

The exercise takes place across a large geographical area in the IOR. The purpose of the Theatre Level exercise is to validate the Navy's offensive defence capabilities, protect national interests in the maritime domain and promote stability and peace in the IOR.

TROPEX 23 will take place over three months, from January to March. All surface combatants of the Indian Navy, including destroyers, frigates, corvettes, submarines and aircraft, participate in the exercise to validate and refine the Navy's Concept of Operations, including operational logistics and interoperability with other Services.

The naval wargame is a military exercise that simulates the actual conditions of modern maritime warfare under various scenarios.

According to the Indian navy, the exercise is being conducted in phases, both in port and at sea, and includes various aspects of combat operations, such as live weapon firings.

The exercise includes elements of a naval wargame, focusing on logistics, such as ordnance deliveries from frontline warships such as missiles, torpedoes and rockets. The exercise will demonstrate the Indian Navy's firepower and reaffirm the Navy's ability to conduct long-range maritime strikes.

TROPEX 23 will conduct drills, cross-deck helicopter operations and anti-submarine manoeuvres to hone combat skills and improve interoperability.

“Having grown in scope and complexity over the years, this exercise provides an opportunity to test the combat readiness of the Indian Navy's combined Fleets to operate in a multi-threat environment,” said a spokesperson for the Indian Navy.
