The Indian Army has begun the process of acquiring 120 loitering munitions and ten aerial targeting systems to enhance its military might along the border with China, the officials said on Thursday.

They also said that the loitering munitions and aerial targeting systems are being bought under a fast-track process under the 'buy Indian' category.

The request for a proposal or initial offer for the purchase will be issued around 14 November.

The aerial targeting systems must have a range of 100 kilometres according to the standards.

Amid the ongoing border dispute with China in eastern Ladakh, the Indian Army has been beefing up its overall combat capabilities.

It has dramatically increased its firepower near the Chinese border by deploying a variety of rockets and artillery weapons and the Army also wants to acquire a variety of other systems, including 100 K9 Vajra howitzers and UAVs, to improve combat prowess further.

The Indian Army's artillery regiments are already equipped with K-9 Vajra Tracked Self-Propelled Howitzers, ultra-light M-777 howitzers, Pinaka rocket systems and Dhanush gun systems.
