China Continues To Build Border Infrastructure At Hectic Pace Without Reducing LAC Troops: Army Chief

According to reports, the People’s Liberation Army has kept around 50,000 troops deployed, along with heavy weaponry, since making multiple incursions into eastern Ladakh in April-May 2020

Amidst the three-year military confrontation in eastern Ladakh. Army chief General Manoj Pande on Friday hinted China continues to build a border infrastructure development at a very hectic pace' without reducing the troops along the LAC.

He said, the overall situation along the LAC is stable but close surveillance is needed as it develops.

According to reports, the People’s Liberation Army has kept around 50,000 troops deployed, along with heavy weaponry, since making multiple incursions into eastern Ladakh in April-May 2020.

It further highlighted the Indian Army’s “robust” deployment in all three sectors of the 3,488 km long LAC, stretching from eastern Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, a “high level” of ready operation.

Addressing a leading media Pande underlined having adequate reserves to deal with any contingencies with the infusion of new technology and weapon system.

Further stressing being capable in the ongoing endeavour and subsequently marking the focus on infrastructure development, especially towards roads, helipads, etc, Pande asserted great optimism.

The Army chief then pinned hope on diplomatic military talks with China that is likely to resolve the remaining friction points. at the strategically located Depsang Plains and Demchok in eastern Ladakh.

He said it’s only through dialogue and talking to each other, we can find a resolution.

He said to balance friction points, our aim and endeavour will be resolved through dialogue and discussion with China, thus finding a resolution.

Till the time our aims are achieved, our deployment of forces and alertness level will continue at a high level, Gen Pande said.

Highlighting Pakistan he said, the infiltration levels across the 778 km Line of Control (LoC) are reduced due to the Army’s “robust” counter-infiltration grid in an attempt across the international boundary (IB) subsequently dropping the use of drones, arms and drugs have shown an increase.

No major reduction in the terror infrastructure is undertaken around Pakistan, Pande added.

Even though the domestic situation in Pakistan is dwindling, be it the political instability, the economic downturn, and the internal security situation, we still need to be alert about the ongoing situation at the LoC and IB, Gen Pande said.
