DRDO Conducts Successful Tests Of Very-Short Range Air Defence System Missile
The Very-Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile was successfully conducted in two flight tests by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from a ground-based portable launcher at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha on Tuesday.
The missile, designed to combat low-altitude aerial threats at close range is propelled by a dual-thrust solid motor.
According to officials, the VSHORADS missile features a number of cutting-edge technologies, including an integrated avionics system and a miniaturised reaction control system.
The launcher as well as the missile's design have been highly optimised for portability. Both flying tests completely met the mission goals.
According to the DRDO, VSHORADS is an indigenously designed and developed man-portable air defence system. It was developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad in collaboration with the DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners.
VSHORAD is the soldier's last line of defence against enemy combat aircraft and helicopters in the multilayered air defence network.
