IAF Earmarks 39 Military Airfields & 9 Advanced Landing Grounds For Civil Aircraft

The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday notified 39 military airfields and nine advanced landing grounds for civil aircraft, according to a media report.

It added the announcement is supported under the Joint User Airfield scheme and has now permitted access to areas that were earlier considered remote.

According to reports, the Defence Ministry has also signed a contract for the procurement of six Dornier-228 aircraft for the IAF and Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) bagged the contract at Rs 667 crore on Friday.

Meanwhile, the aircraft was used by IAF for route transport roles and communication duties. Subsequently, helping in training transport pilots of the IAF.

Further, the present lot of six aircraft is estimated to be procured with an upgraded fuel-efficient engine coupled with a five-bladed composite propeller.

All the short-haul operations from semi-prepared runways of the northeast and island chains of India will be ideally suited for aircraft use. Thus, adding bolster of the operational capability of the IAF in remote areas.
