Indian Army Activates Satellite-Based Internet Service On Siachen Glacier

Satellite based internet service activated on the Siachen Glacier

The Siachen Signallers on Sunday activated a satellite-based internet service on the Siachen Glacier at 19,061 feet.

The Fire & Fury Corps of the Indian Army posted an image of it on its official Twitter account and tweed, “Satellite-based internet service activated on the Siachen Glacier at 19,061 feet, the World's Highest Battlefield, by the Siachen Signallers.”

Siachen is situated in the Himalayas' eastern Karakoram range. Earlier, history was made when a party of eight people with special needs climbed the world's highest battlefield to reach the Kumar Post at 15,632 feet on the Siachen glacier, creating a world record.

Operation Blue Freedom, an expedition had begun last month on August 15 at the base camp in Siachen. The expedition was organised by team CLAW (Conquer Land Air Water), a group that works to empower people with disabilities. The team began making preparations for the expedition after receiving permission from the Indian Army to ascend the Siachen Glacier.
