Delhi Police has provided newly appointed Chief of Defense Staff General (CDS) Anil Chauhan with Z+ security on the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, an official said on Monday.

He was appointed CDS of India on Friday, with responsibility for carrying out the ambitious theaterisation plan, which aims to enhance tri-service coordination and equip the armed forces for upcoming national security threats.

A top police officer said, "CDS Gen Anil Chauhan has been given Z+ security on MHA's directive."

After more than nine months, the first Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu. General Chauhan, a former Eastern Army commander, assumed command as the country's senior-most military commander.

Z+ security is provided by National Security Guard (NSG) commandos. This is the second highest level of protection after the Special Protection Group (SPG), which is only given to the prime minister of the country.

In Z+ Security, each member of the squad is skilled in martial arts and unarmed combat techniques, and they are equipped with Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns and the latest communication tools. Currently, such protection is offered to 40 VIPs.
