After many explosions were reported in the capital and capital's central Shevchenkivsky area, the Ukrainian president's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak said,  Kyiv was attacked by "kamikaze drones" early Monday.

"The Russians believe it would benefit them, but it demonstrates their desperation," Yermak said on social media.

Three explosions occurred between 6.35 a.m. and 6.58 a.m. (local time) while one occurred in the capital's downtown Shevchenkivsky area, according to city mayor Vitali Klitschko.

"All services are en route to the scene—details to follow. The air alert remains in effect. Stay at a shelter!" Klitschko made the announcement on social media.

On 10 October, Russian missiles poured down on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities in the largest wave of attacks in months. The attacks killed at least 19 people and injured 105 others, sparking international outrage.

The next day, Moscow carried out additional strikes, albeit on a smaller scale, targeting energy installations in western Ukraine far from the battle lines.

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed the strikes were in revenge for an explosion that destroyed a critical bridge connecting Russia to the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow has annexed.

Putin expressed satisfaction on Friday and said there is no need for any big strikes on Ukraine "for the time being."
