We Fully Support India’s Efforts To Control Situation: US On India-China Border Clash

The Department of Defence continues to closely watch developments along the line of actual control, LAC and we have seen the People’s Republic of China continue to amass forces and build military infrastructure along the LAC, Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder said

The Pentagon has said that the US Department of Defence is keeping a close watch on developments along the line of actual control (LAC) at the India-China border in Tawang as the People's Republic of China (PRC) continues to amass forces and build military infrastructure along the contested border.

The Pentagon also asserted that the US fully supports India in its efforts to control the situation.

The Department of Defence continues to closely watch developments along the line of actual control, LAC. Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder said during a press briefing, we have seen the People’s Republic of China continue to amass forces and build military infrastructure along the LAC.

The statement came in the wake of the latest clash between troops of both sides, when as many as 300 Chinese troops arrived near the LAC on 9 December to gain control over the peak of a 17,000-feet-high mountain under a well-planned conspiracy, but the Indian forces foiled their attempt. This was the first clash between the troops since the Galwan Valley in June 2020.

It does reflect the growing trend by the PRC to assert itself and to be provocative in areas directed towards US allies and our partners in Indo-Pacific. We will continue to remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the security of our partners. The Pentagon spokesperson added that we fully support India’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate the situation.

China’s first statement on the clash came with its Foreign Ministry saying that the situation on its border with India is “stable.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that as far as we understand, the situation on the China-India border is overall stable. Continuous talks are going on, on the border issue through diplomatic and military channels.

China has maintained that the situation on its border with India is stable. According to sources, the Chinese soldiers had come with barbed sticks near the LAC on 9 December.

India has taken a firm stance on the conflict. The Defence Minister also called a meeting with the chiefs of all three armed forces, the CDS and the NSA.

The clash between Indian and Chinese troops on 9 December took place at 17,000 feet at Yangtse, some 35 km northeast of Tawang in western Arunachal Pradesh.
